Let's see, my first "PC" was a home-brew self-built from parts, 4K memory, no floppies, programmed in binary with 8 front panel switches. Turn it off and all was forgotten - no way to save anything! then came the TRS-80 with 80K floppies. Heaven! Finally a Hayes modem.

    No, I don't miss it.

But the modern WWW is so full of cr*p in most cases, and so commercialized, that I don't find it too useful anymore. Especially medical sites - I wish people were more discriminating. GIGO (anyone remember that?) is the rule. Don't care about video, entertainment. But I sure do like internet shopping, BT3C, and other WW sites!

      HeavyDutyTools,

Did they ever get the Atari 1400 and 1450 to market? I remember seeing the brochure, but never saw anything actually price listed or in the local store.

I have a great story about the 800 though. I ordered it in June and it arrived at the beginning of July... defective. The replacement that was sent was also defective, as was it's replacement. I ended up talking to Atari directly and was sent two more replacements... both defective. Finally in December I wrote Time-Warner's CEO, documenting all the problems. A week later, I got an apologetic phone call from Atari's Marketing VP. He sent me another defective unit. That's when a "blew up" and talked directly with the secretary to the president of operations. By Christmas we received a brand new working unit, disk drive, modem, interface, and several software packages and games.

Finally happy, and figured things were done... but in late January I received three of those original "defective" units back from thier repair center. I called to let them know and find out what was going on and was told to just keep them as they didn't want to open "another can of worms". So, I sold two and still have two packed away in the attic.

Come to find out, their shipping and receiving were all in one warehouse and the had no way of knowing what was coming or going. It's no wonder they failed.

Yeah, I recall the first time that I FTP'd drivers for my shiny new sound blaster pro. I remember before that getting the 150 bps model to work on my ti. I remember the old world, and at times I miss it.

But for me, the computer has been about creating new worlds to explore, and I'm still getting to do that, so I suppose I'm happy.
