On another forum that I frequent, one of the members is milling an American Elm that came down in his back yard. He's pulling 9/4 guitar blanks from it and the thing is beautiful. He's posted a pictorial record of the process here. Its impressive.

That is some awesome wood. I think I would have like to have it sliced into veneer though. A piece made totally from this wood would be overpowering. This kind of figure makes a great focus point on a piece of furniture I think.
