I want to get Vonage but need a phone upstairs. Router is downstairs. I can't find a wireless VTA. Normally not a problem since you can use one VTA to run the whole house, except my broadband is DSL. So what I am thinking is there are 4 wires in the phone lines. I can leave the pair that carries the DSL live. I can disconnect the other pair from the telco. Then I make up a couple pair-swapped cables and connect the house phones to the VTA with that. The DSL is on the normal pair and the Vonage stuff is on the other pair. Any problems with this?

It may work but it may cause noise in the dsl line. It is much simpler to use a 5.8ghz spread spectrum cordless phone with the Vonage adapter. Sunrocket(another VOIP phone service provider) is less expensive ($199/year all inclusive US & Canada) and you can often find a deal with a free cordless phone.Opinions are like gas;

why not just get one of the expandable cordless phone systems and an extra handset? I have one that the base is a speakerphone, the base is the charger for the first handset, and has a second handset that charges at another location. I plug the base into the Sunrocket Gizmo (in my case) and the second handset is in the living room. I take that phone up with me every night, butI could just as easily go buy another handset for upstairs.Mike

Mike, that is probably a better idea. I will talk to LOML about it. We are trying to do this on the cheap, but it may not be possible to do it that way.David
