I'm in reasonable shape here but I remember when a sink hole in Orlando near my brother's house took out 1/2 mil worth of Porshes in a car dealership.Ken Weaver

That's right, Ken... A nice pond and a little park are the only remainder of that little debacle (actually, it was in Winter Park)....eight, nine, TEN! Yep! Still got all my fingers!Comment

Yeah - that's where he was at the time, he's in West Palm now. I think his house was within 10 blocks of the place. Scary stuff!Originally posted by just4funsiesThat's right, Ken... Yes, it was... It also took one end of a city swimming pool (just snapped it off and gulped down all the water) and bit a chunk halfway across Denning Drive. We still have one or two holes open up every year within 50 miles or so of here. Not too many as dramatic as the Winter Park hole, though. Geologists say they're from groundwater draining out of limestone caverns. Then the ceiling collapses, and WHOOSH! There's a small lake here in O'do that is barely a couple of hundred yards across. Divers have yet to find the bottom of it, and they've been down hundreds of feet. Once in a while, a drunk will run his car into it, and never sees it again. Weird.

Otherwise known as too many people using the water faster than it can replenish itself. Lake Jackson in Tallhassee still hasn't come back after it drained into a sinkhole almost 7 years ago. Water table had dropped too much for it ever to come back. A shame - I used to live on the lake shore and fished there every night.Originally posted by just4funsiesGeologists say they're from groundwater draining out of limestone caverns.
