Well, the ceiling is insulated and I'm not sure about the walls. Unfortunately the garage walls are both facing the outside to the east and west so it gets blasted with both morning and afternoon sun. It's a single story house so the garage is attached like an afterthought to the back instead of incorporated into the main footprint. I doubt that the builder put insulation in the walls, the house was built in 1973.
I keep a big oscillating fan going but it really only blows the air last a blast furnace. We are able to keep both cars in at night and that doesn't help things. I offered LOML to keep my Expedition outside to keep it from heating things up (not to mention freeing up valuable real estate for more tools) but was shot down in flames...

Are you telling me you spend summers in southern SK and go to Grand Rapids for the winter? Isn't that kinda backwards?Originally posted by StickDitto that. Been in the high 90's all of July in southern SK. I don't mind at all! Not one little bit! It's a lot better than 40 below. My wood shop is built with 12" walls, insulated to the hilt. It's the coolest building on the farm, rarely goes over 65 in there even when it's over 100 outside. Same in the winter, it seldom goes less than about 25°F in there, even when it's 40 below outside. That's without heat or A/C. LOML gets heat stroke easy, she really suffers in the summer, but I've never been bothered by the heat. I spent half of July haying on an open station tractor. Never had as much as a headache. Just drank lots of fluids.
I suppose neither is better than the other in winter, eh?Brian

Just keep sucking down the fluids. I kept the hose handy and drank at least 30 oz of water about every 20-30 minutes. But I did adapt. I do notice a difference since then - I am a lot more comfortable outside on a hot day than I was.Originally posted by just4funsiesIf you don't DIE first!!

No, I live in Saskatchewan and work in Grand Rapids, Manitoba. 450 miles one way to work. 8 days on (12 hr shifts), 10 days off. Two of those days are spent driving, but it's still better than a regular monday to friday job. Only thing I hate is not being home every day.Originally posted by bigsteel15Are you telling me you spend summers in southern SK and go to Grand Rapids for the winter? Isn't that kinda backwards?

Grand Rapids is actually a little milder in both summer and winter, being situated between two giant lakes and surrounded by bush. Spring is much colder though, it takes months for the ice to melt off the lakes, and fall is much longer as it takes months for the water to freeze. it's warmer in winter because we're sheltered from the wind. Southern SK in winter is like the movies you see about Siberia, lots of snow and howling winds 24/7.Comment

It has been terribly hot here too, plus we are in the middle of a bad drought. It was 102 here today and supposed to be at 103 tomorrow. Plus we do have the humidity here, and have had some blow dryer type winds. It is 11:10 pm here now and it is still 88!
