    Pocket PC testers???

As some of you know I am a game developer. My company is currently in beta for our latest pocket pc title, and oddly, we are having a hard time finding testers. In the past we've had a lot of testers volunteer to test, by which they mean take the beta of the game and disappear.

If anyone is interested in actually testing the game, please reply here or leave me a PM.

    Thanks,

    PC game test

I tested games for the Rainbow magazine for Radio Shack Color Computer back in the 80's. Haven't tested any in awhile, but I tested some estimating software for a major company several years ago. What system do I have to own to test it? I would be interested and my son and daughter might give it a shot as well.

It does sound interesting, don't have any beta testing background, but have played video games consistently starting with pong....what are the system requirements?

Requirement is a Pocket PC with an ARM chip of some sort (StrongARM or XScale).

There is also a PC build, but it will depend upon how much value the team deams testing on the PC at this point. I think we are more focused on device issues now.

          Too bad I don't have a PPC..

I've beta tested for IBM, Seagate and a few others over the years. Always entertaining to see what it does.

Same problem here as Wood Workur, I do lots of game beta testing though.

No pocket PC here either. :-( Maybe that is why you are having trouble finding testers? No pocket PC's out there.

Sorry, I'm currently in-between PDA's currently (as I don't really have a use for one right now) If you decide to test out the software with a PC emulator drop me a line, sounds fun.

Well, the emulator won't work, as it doesn't emulate the GDK, ie it's not a very good emulator. There are many pocket pc's out there, and some PPC games sell in the 100s of thousands, though we do most of our business overseas, the UK being the biggest contributor. I think the market saturation of PALM over here is a part of the US market issue. Basically people buy the names that know, not the device that is best.

The problem isn't finding testers, it's finding testers who will test, and not just make off with a free copy of the beta. Basically organized software piracy. It's amazing what people will do to save a buck, when you consider that these games are not very expensive at all.

PDAs are kind of a dying breed, with cell phones rising up to functionality level of a PPC. I have an older PPC (Jornada 568) - I have some games on it, but hardly ever play them, using the device purely for calendar, notes, contacts and such. I will not buy a new PPC unless combined with a phone (been considering Verizon's XV6700) but phone PPCs are a still a bit sluggish processor-wise, and lack storage.
