    Career Change 3.0

Tomorrow I start career Change Change 3.0. Career Change 1.0 was going from a stock boy to working at AT&T. That lasted over 29 years.

Career Change 2.0 was when I lost at musical chairs and was downsized in 2002. I started a handyman business. I was my own boss and wore jeans and tee shirts to work. Got to buy lots of tools, including the BT3100 mostly bought with severance money or as a business expense.

Career Change 3.0 is back to the corporate world with one of the large cellular companies. The money is much better and steadier than the handyman business. I’m not thrilled about wearing shirt and tie again.

However, after being laid off once and being of a “mature age” I’ll be re-entering the corporate world with a totally different attitude. I had my career, this is just a job. And there are those tools…

Everything seems to happen for a reason. Just think how lucky you have been to get some variety in your work. Good luck with the new endeavor.

I very much understand you, Al. Those changes are huge.

Now think back 25 years. Could you have imagined then that you'd some day have your current POV?

      It's a crazy world.

I think anybody that would be excited about waeringa noose...er a tie should really have their head examined. Then again I think wearing kahkis/slacks is being dressed up. My wife always looks at me funny when I put on my "nice" jeans to go some where. Nice being no holes or stains in them.

Good luck going back to the cube farm.

I know the feeling. I have 2 pair that stay on hangars so I don't wear them to the shop. Even have a pair to white tennies for 'dress up' times!

Great position to take on this. Today it is hard to think of anything as more than a job. The wireless industry you are entering is so rapidly changing. In the last 3 years I had a regional cell phone carrier which was bought by AT&T Wireless. AT&T Wireless was bought by Cingular and resulted in a horriable transition for me as a customer. Example : AT&T and Cingulars billing systems were never integrated. When I got a new phone it switched me to Cingulars cellular billing but never cancelled AT&T. And for some reason they could not get that straight! Of course you would think when you got new phones and switched to Cingular officially, you would be on one of their plans. Nope they "grandfathered" me in a former AT&T customer, which kept me in a plan Cingular did not offer. I had a overage last month which was billed at $.45 PER MINUTE (raping?). I called to discuss and there just wasnt anything to be done about it. I asked what the next level up was and he said 700 minutes for $60.00. I advised I had a 500 minute for $59.99, so for $.01 more, yes I would take the 700 minute plan and YES THEY WERE GOING TO REMOVE ALL OF THE OVERAGE CHARGES FOR BEING SUCH IDIOTS!
I mean when I switched phone and got the new digital Cingular plan, shouldn't I have been given a Cingular plan?!?!?!

BTW, trying to confirm but I just read at dslreports.com that Cingular was chaning their name to AT&T Wireless! Could have something to do with AT&T buying Bellsouth which is half owner of Cingular.
