    Father Of Invention - Crazy

Not to do anything illegal, but took a chance I wouldn't get caught during a delivery. Had to carry to the jobsite many 16' machined (with edge details) solid oak moulding pieces that were finished. The only vehicle I had at the time was a K5 Blazer. Had to drive about 35 miles one way in combined interstate and residential roads. Couldn't carry in the back cause all my tools were there, and they were so long. So I made two "J" shape hangers that I hung on the passenger side of the truck and filled it up with the moulding, about 30 lengths. Some of it was base, and door and window caseing. Pretty sizeable batch hanging out there. Didn't get stopped by the cops, but I guess they were checking their books for possible violations. I was sweating that the hangers would stay together long enough to get there, and they did. Any crazy guys like me out there with a good one?

He is another crazy one. Back in the mid sixty's my pickup broke down on Friday afternoon after we had loaded the race car and all the equipment on the trailer and on the back of the truck. The only vehicle we had for towing was VW that belonged to my wife. It had a trailer hitch soooo we put the trailer on the VW threw the tool box in the front (turnk) put the spare tires in the back seat and took off. We had to go about 25 miles. did not get stopped but had to be real careful as the front end would came off the ground when pulling out from stop signals also took a long time to stop. Needles to say we took the back roads. Luckly when the driver showed up we transferd every thing to his pick up. Saturday we fixed my truck before leaving for the races that night. The race car was not damaged during Friday nites races so all we had to do was clean it up and the normal maintaince. The VW did need a new clutch a couple of weeks later. Dumb Dumb Dumb I have pictures some place will have to dig them out.

How about 20 sheets of ½" sheetrock in the back of a Honda Accord hatchback (with three feet sticking out the back)? I was just about to ask LOML to go sit on the hood as a counterbalance because the front wheels has barely enough wight on them to get any traction.

You guys reminded me of another time when my wife and I went to HD to get tile. It was the same K5 Blazer. Loaded boxes upon boxes (can't remember how many) plus bags and bags of thinset (can't remember how many) and grout. Had about 10 miles to get home and the front end was so light, every bump and RR tracks it would come off the ground. Had her up and over on top of the dash to try and bring the front down and loaded whatever we could on passenger floor and in between the seats. We laughed all the way home.

Not as good as the ones mentioned, but I too have a couple adventures in moving things.

Lets see, I once tied a king size matress and box spring to the roof of a '87 mercury cougar.

I moved three pallettes of 4" x 4" x 4' poplar lumber in a old Dodge van, at a stand still there was only about an inch wheel clearance every little bump I lost a little tread on my rear tires.

Then the best I got is moving a '91 Chrysler Lebaron inside of a Uhaul from Nebraska to Tennesee. I had boxes all around it and in it and in the cubby above the cab and was towing another car behind it on a dolly and that car was full of stuff also. I wasn't about to make two trips. Getting the car in there was tricky, but getting it out was even trickier. Did end up bending the exaust, but no big deal.
