    Lowe's Rant

Went to Lowe's July 4th to buy a new riding mower. They had 2 of the type I wanted, one had a broken throttle, the other was perfect. Bought that one and made sure they put a "Sold" sign on it. It was to be delivered today.

They SOLD it to someone else yesterday! It should have been moved off the floor for delivery but apparently wasn't.

They'll be getting more in on Wed and promise to deliver it after 4:30 when I usually get home from work. If not, they get a choice. Cancel the sale. or provide 10% off. HD has done that when they screwed up. We'll see.

Push them for a percent off anyway. Years ago I bought one from Sears and after they loaded it on my truck I noticed a small scratch on it and they knocked off an additional $100.00 for the scratch.

Next time, take a cab to the store, buy a riding mower and drive it home. I know what you are talking about. It seems like the big stores get away with everything. When I was married the first time and we went to a big store to buy furniture, my wife fell in love with a particular sofa. The salesman offered us a discount, cause it was a "floor" model. My wife noticed some flaws with stitching and turned down the offer. We were told to order one would take 8 - 10 weeks, we said OK. After 12 weeks, the sofa was delivered, and it was the "FLOOR" model. My wife went ballistic. After she told the store manager every dirty word she ever heard, the deal we got was to use that one til a new one was delivered, and a 25% discount besides.

Demand a 20% discount, or say **** this, I'm going to Home Depot, they actualy screen the emplyees for drugs, and make sure they at least have a brain before giving them a job, not to mention they treat me nicer. Then they will give you a bigger discount to keep the sale.

but they always do that, to make more money.

          Try this:
I go to Sears during my lunch and find a nice 12" CMS on clearance for $80. There are 4 boxes stacked in front of me. I get a sales guy and ask to get one for me and tell him I would need to call my wife to bring a car and it will take 30 minutes (I don't drive to work). I did not mind waiting around but the saw would need to be ready in 30 minutes. The sales guy assures me not to worry, to bring the car to pick-up area when ready and the saw will be waiting for me. 30 minutes later the car arrives and 1 hour more later we are being told that all boxes had been sold including the one I paid for. The Sears stock answer is "satisfaction guaranteed or your money back". Somehow I think after I spent 1.5 hours, made my wife bring the car, etc, returning my $80 is not an adequate response. To make the story short - 3 days later after calling Sears headquarters and registering formal complaint the store manager called me back and I got a different model (ending with 235, the clearance model was ending with 215 and was already gone) for a grand total of $100. A very nice 12" dual-bevel CMS for $100 is a very nice deal but with all the time and gas wasted around it - It is not that sweet. If you factor in a reasonable hourly rate I don't know if the fight was worth it.

Well, despite the promise to deliver the mower after 4:30, Lowes called at 7:30 AM to say it would be here this AM. Extracted their word that it would arrive between 12 - 1:00 i.e. lunch time. Naturally, it came at 11:45. Luckily I was able to get home a bit early and was here to receive it!

Ah well, at least I know it's not a floor model. New out of the box, and they even had it assembled! Got home this PM, attached the mulch kit, and took it for a short spin. Runs great! Actually looking forward to cutting the grass Saturday AM!
