Nahm had a an episode of NYW a while back where he got some chestnut from a guy who salvaged wood that way. My dad has an old tobacco drying shed stacked in his yard. I ask every couple mos if he is ready to just part it out yet. He still thinks he is going to put it back up.David

I agree 100% with the salvage of old wood. One has to be careful about determining what is "abandoned" even before entering. "Ilegal entry" can lead to "theft" once the crowbar gets planted.
With the dwindling availability of "Dade County Pine", here in Florida, the scavenging of that specie has been diligent.

A couple of months ago there was a "Modern Marvels" (History Channel) episode on "Lumber Yards". It had a great segment on old or reclaimed wood, showing quite a few examples, including reclaimation from docks, old factory buildings, etc.; including, logs recovered from harbors, lakes, and even bogs and swamps. It was very interesting.
As we all know, these "Modern Marvels" programs are often repeated, so keep an eye out for "Lumber Yards".
