LOL yeah 100 gig of memory is a good one. I've been building PCs for 21 of my 33 years on this planet. You actually can build your own laptop, believe it or not, but it's a pretty extreme undertaking. Again, Alienware would be an ideal choice, but who has the money, really. At that kinda money, might as well look hard at a mac.

It's a typical situation with laptops though, that manufacturers don't tell you what all is under the hood, and that is starting to creep into desktops as well, causes all kinda grief for us game dev guys.

Been offline a couple days, time to catch up.

Loring: the CompUSA deal is the one to which I referred. CompUSA is the exclusive source for this special edition computer. And as David mentions, CompUSA site gives the HD size as 100GB. (I can only assume that the omission of such a basic spec on the LAF site itself was purely an oversight.)

Mac Fans: <heavy sigh> Guys, I appreciate your fervor and enthusiam; and I have even considered (and not yet dismissed) buying an iBook. But that's a separate question. For now, please ... can we keep the discusion on topic? I'm looking for comments on this specific machine relative to other, similar Wintel machines, not for a religious conversion. Thank you.

Rick: That's a savvy comment about keeping my computer buying decision separate, and that's one of the very issues I'm considering. A principal use of this computer would be for my volunteer work for the LAF, and toward that end owning this special LiveStrong computer could carry some important benefits in terms of community exposure, etc. OTOH there are any number of $500 laptops out there that I could buy and slap a couple LiveStrong stickers onto and possibly reap pretty much the same benefits.

Keith: primary usages would be vanilla business apps, email, web access, etc. I'm not a gamer at all.

All: My primary concern here is whether this particular computer is worth its price more or less on its own merits. "More or less" because I'm sure there's some premium involved for the LiveStrong graphics, but I don't mind that as long as the premium is not extreme (but don't ask me to quantify what "extreme" means). Laptop specs are sooooo confusing ... a glance at a BestBuy flyer will frequently show three different laptops that appear to have similar basic specs, and yet they might cost $600, $900, and $1500 respectively. Argghhh!

So I'm basically trying to figure out whether this machine is reasonably priced considering what one gets (with some allowance made for the special edition bling, whatever that's worth); or waaaaaay overpriced, with far too much of the purchase price going exclusively for that bling.
