    scope in the eye

I went to the range today and let my buddy fire my 300 Remington Ultra Mag and he got a huge gouge in his eye brow. Had to get 5 stitches. The scope busted him up pretty good. I told him it had quite a kick to it. I shot a box of bird shot through the 12 gauge then fired 4 rounds through the rifle. Its quite a bit worse in the prone position. Its only the second time I shot it. To expensive to shoot much at such short range. Need to get to a good range. Want to eventually get good at shooting 1000+ yards.
Put about 300 rounds though the Glock today too. First time shooting this year. I gotta take my son skeet shooting one of these days. He has never been. I haven't gone in a few years.

    Owww!

That hurts! Haven't done it since I was 15 and didn't know a rifle scope is not a telescope.

What model Glock do you have? I've been thinking about getting one.

I've got a Dan Wesson Model 15, 357, in bright blue. It has interchangeable barrels up to 15". Looks and feels great with Pachmyers(sp?). It's a sweetheart.

I have the Glock 22C and 27. I prefer the .40 round to the 9mm. Will the .300 reach out to 1000 yards with any reasonable accurancy?

I prefer the Thompson Contender for plinking. I have about a dozen barrels for it. I have from .22 to 45-70. If you want to really draw a crowd, touch off a .375 JDJ round thru a 14 inch barrel. When I shot at Markhan Park in South Florida, they would move me to the far end of the range. That round was developed for big game hunting with a pistol.

              Rounder,

I had the same problem when I was fireforming 30-30 brass for my T/C. Back then, all you could buy was roundnose rifle loads. Let me tell you, when you cranked off those loads of slow-burning powder, the flame cloud that erupted from the end of that 14" barrel was 'sumpin'!"

Not to mention the concussion! Like you, I was usually banished to the far end of the line.

Nice thing about the T/C's - cutting your eye with the scope was never a problem. You did need to worry about your wrist, though!

I shoot IPSC competition using a custom .45 made by the late Austin Behlert. One heck of a gun. This is the same pistol I use for personal protection. The .45 in hollow point 230 grain is nice and big and slow and doesn't punch thru like a 9mm. It just does massive damage and stops the knuckleheads cold. And after all, that's just what you want to do, immediately take the other guy out of play. Whether he dies or not doesn't matter, you stop him quickly with a mid-section shot, and really dont worry about him moving at all after the first one or two shots (I always fire double taps).

A 9mm, with its big magazine gives you a false sense of protection, all those additional rounds, if you can't accomplish what you set out to do with 2 or 3 shots, you are in great need of a lot of practice, or maybe a short barrel 12 gauge with #4 bird shot. Big spread, just point and pull the trigger.

I used to compete with a pre-64 model 70 winchester in -06 out to 1200 yards and you would be surprised at the accuracy.

My favorite plinker is a ruger blackhawk in .30 carbine. that thing throws out fireballs that you cannot believe. I used to go to the range and pertend that the gun kicked like crazy and then ask the guy next to me if he wanted to give it a try. Funny to see people anticipate the recoil and then to see the look on their face when they pull a maggies drawers

Ah, memories of my shooting years:

I once saw a genius sit with his back to the pilar of a cement shooting bench to and let fly with a .375 h&h.

I guess he woulda field dressed around 300+ lbs, helping load him in the ambulance was kinda like rescuing a beached whale.
