The Infinite Wisdom of Pay Pal

A couple days ago, I got a notice from Pay Pal that my back up funding source (a credit card) was going to be not good as the expiration date has passed. They told me to change the card and they would send my subscriptions thru on the 29th. Yesterday, I deleted the old card and entered the new data for the new source. Last evening I got two e-mails from Pay Pal thanking me for canceling my subscriptions to BTCentral and Kicking.com. I wrote Pay Pal and informed them that I hadn’t cancelled my subscription, but merely followed their instructions.

I got an e-mail back from them stating that any time you delete your back up funding source; it cancels all your subscriptions automatically. And that they cannot reverse their actions. I was instructed to re-sign up with the two subscriptions directly with those sites and not thru Pay Pal.

The long and the short of it, I followed their directions, prior to the cutoff date and because I did, I was cancelled. Further, for trying to do the right thing, they cannot reverse what they did, but I must correct their mistake.

**** of a way to run a railroad.

"...canceling my subscriptions to BTCentral and Kicking.com."

How do you use PayPal for those "subscriptions"?

Monthly membership donation is one of the membership options for BT3central.

Oh, OK, that makes sense... I had the magazine type subscription on my mind... If "donation subscription" were used, I would have gotten it faster.

I think I would have just updated to the credit card new expire date.

        Thank you...

I had the same thing happen with my bank debit card when I changed my account type and got a new card. When I deleted the old card, all of the regular, scheduled payments were cancelled and I had to re-do them with the new card.
I have a feeling that is how banking in general is set up, deleteing rather than updating a card forces us to re-do the regular stuff done originally with the old card.

Unfortunatly, I had the same thing happen with PayPal a few months ago and went thru a series of emails with them to no avail. I threw up my hands and canceled. In my case I had a credit card stolen and canceled it and got a new number. PayPal system couldn't handle it. I let the software dust settle and reopened the account later.

They just need another good lawsuit thats all. Generally speaking I find Class Action suits to be ignorant, however last years against PayPal was well deserved. I got divorced, closed all checking accounts, ex-wife and both moved from prior address. Couple years later I sell a >$1000 item on Ebay and the person uses instant payment to PayPal account using email address associated with Ebay. I didn't remember password. Did not have the checking account number it was associated with so I could not verify the account, etc. The PayPal account was in my name only, so no complications there. I offered to mail my DL, SS#, etc to them. They declined. I was too busy at work to fight with them so the money sat there, interest free, for over a year. When the class action suit was brought about and settlement was agreed upon they actually gave me access to my account. Oh ya, and $18 or so for the Class Action.
