    What kind of tree?

This is growing on my route. Not sure what kind it is, but I want to cry every time I pass it.

Other than it's size, nothing spectacular about this tree. Unles you look at the base of the trunk....

Never seen a tree take a dump before.

Seriously is that a burl of some kind?

That looks like an olive tree to me, by the leaves and bark. Didn't notice any fruit, did you?

Hard to tell. That could explain the swelling at the base.
You'd really have to get a close look at the nuts. MDF nuts would be very very flat and heavy.

looks similar to a type of oak tree that grows here in the coastal areas of NC, it is an evergreen oak, and has nice tight small leaves, dense branch cover, and a finley grained bark...
