I am NOT an addict! I categorically deny any involvement with tools or those who traffic in them. These wood projects are the natural outcome of years of work based on God-given talent. I have never known any tool users and never seen any tools being used.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a curved, , carved, laminated, rosewood-inlaid, bubinga crafstman cabinetzilla to hit out of the park!

      Correction to the equation.

Surely tools in my basement have a price tag. But then I enjoyed my vacation doing work in the shop instead of paying for a Carnival Cruise trip. I think I just saved the cost of most of my tools even if all I built was a paper towel holder.

The funniest thing about that cartoon is the dude check marked every tool listed to make sure he had it. That kills me.

Garage that will never have a car parked in it - $16,000...and counting
Tools to fill garage - $6,000...and counting
Lumber/hardware to build cabinets to store said tools - $2,000...and counting
Wife who stated that it's OK if she parks on the street, because she doesn't like driving in the back alley full of snow anyways...PRICELESS.

Ah, but the feeling of satisfaction is worth it when wifey dearest realizes you just saved a saved her favorite 60 year old tractor from the slow scrap boat to China with that big machine that twirls metal pieces around and that other one that looks like the giant drill and the other one that makes showers of really bright sparks that you go blind from if you watch them and that thing like a giant propane torch with the big heavy bottles on the cart.

Or that you bought a $100 baler from the neighbor and spent only $60 in parts fixing it, so she didn't have to spend $38,000 for a newer used one at the local dealership.

Same with the wood stuff. They may laugh at us with all the money we have in tools for what we actually produce, but how about all the thousands spent on kitchen gadgets when we could just eat in restaurants.

Actually, you want a sure fire way to get wifey off your back about your money pit hobby? Let her get a horse. Now THAT is a money pit! They even burn "special" expensive hay that thankfully the cows don't like, and need special feeders so they don't get their heads stuck, and all sorts of ridiculous vet bills, so they can get ridden a couple of times a month. And then you get to buy a stock trailer, and a bigger truck to pull it, and the list goes on.

Our hobbies are really cheap in comparison!
