    How true it is...

(A friend sent this to me)

U.S. Navy Admiral, John Carey, was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian, and French navies.

At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a group of half a dozen or so officers that included personnel from most of the countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks, but a French Admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English.

He then asked: "Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather Than speaking French?"

Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied, "Maybe it's because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies, and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German."

Suddenly the group became very quiet.

              That was good, Rod!

I was at a conference this past spring in which a young married couple were seated across from me. He was German, she was French. I commented to them about meeting some people from Normandy at the World Expo in Nagoya, Japan last year, and upon hearing them speak French, I made the natural comment: "So you are from France?"
"No!" was the reply. "We are from Normandy!"

At seeing a little shock on their faces at that commment, I offered a little apology for any unintended offence, but the German husband said, "Thats OK, I tell French jokes all the time" - after which he told me one:

"Do you know how many Frenchmen it takes to defend the Eiffle Tower?"

              I said, "I don't know."

He replied, "That is OK, No one else knows either, because it has never been done."

OK, true enough, but if you know your history you'll know that if it weren't for the French we'd be speaking with a British accent and playing "God Save the Queen" before all our sports events.

Yeah, well it's unlikely we could hear much more about the shenanigans of the British royal family than we're already hearing! Royal revenge?
