Nasty trojan: Antispywarebox
Not sure if that's the official name, but that's the website it kept directing me to. I think it all started on yep, you guessed it, Tuesday...... 6/6/06.
I got one of those alert messages from the bottom right corner of the toolbar that said I was infected with spyware and needed to go to Windows Security Center. It was official looking enough. Mistake! Of course, at that point I was already infected.
Long story short, the wonder people at Lavasoft (makers of Ad-Aware) have been helping a boatload of users with the same or very similar problem. www.lavasoftsupport.com is where I found them.
Make sure you anti virus and anti spyware is up-to-date. I'm usually pretty good about that and very limited in the sites I visit. That wasn't enough though.
