Any Firefox users know of a way to get Firefox to pretend it is IE? We have some sites at work that require IE and it is annoying that I am forced to use them.
Firefox -> IE Emulation

It doesn't emulate IE but there is an extension that will call IE whenever you designate a specficied page. Its called IE View" Here's URL - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/35/Ken Weaver

I also like IETab https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1419/ firefox add-on.
Unfortuanely, it's completey possible to write an appplication that only works in IE. IE-7, currently in beat, seems much improved, so perhaps this annoyance will be reduced in the future.Comment

This is what I really want. Actually what I really want is an option in Firefox to say it is IE. The IEView worked but it closed the other tabs I had open. Not sure I like that.David

A couple of notes:
Be aware the site you're trying to use this on, if it's a corporate intranet site, may need IE because it uses the security hole known as "ActiveX", which is only available on IE. In case you don't know about this MS "technology", ActiveX basically allows a website to execute binary code on your machine, with all the permissions your browser has. So if someone wants to make a website with an ActiveX control which, say, deletes all your user data, IE will happily run that app and delete all your data. And MS claims to hire all the smartest people...
Needless to say, Firefox didn't bother implementing such an idiotic thing, but unfortunately many, many corporate websites still require this as their internal applications are written with ActiveX, or some other IE-only features. So don't be surprised if you "fool" the website into thinking you're using IE and it still doesn't work.
Secondly, I recommend setting up Firefox to only advertise itself as IE on these select sites, and not to all the other sites you browse. Why does this matter? Because all the webmasters of these public sites look at their statistics to see who's browsing their site. If it just shows 100% IE because everyone who's using Firefox has set their browser to advertise itself as IE, then we'll still be stuck with the same mess where many sites only work with IE, and web developers don't bother testing with Firefox or other standards-compliant browsers. Instead, if they have a good solid 10% or more of their users using Firefox (or other browsers like Safari, Opera, etc.), then they'll put more effort into making sure their site works in ALL browsers, instead of just one. It's really not that hard; they just have to write to open standards, but with IE dominating the market, and IE not completely conforming to open standards (by design of course), many webmasters don't see any reason to bother making sure their sites are standards-compliant unless enough people are using these other browsers.Comment
