As if the lines at Krispy Kreme weren't long enough ...

It seems today, the first Friday in June, is National Donut Day, and Krispy Kreme is offering a free one to anyone who stops by one of their stores.

According to Emeril Lagasse's web site, NDD apparently was begun by the Chcago Salvation Army during the late 1930s, to honor the Salvation Army's workers from World War I. (Took 'em a while to get around to it, eh?)

Krispy Kreme was in La Crosse for about 2 years until last fall, and they used to give out a free donut to each and every customer in their store. Which is probably why they went out of business in La Crosse...

McDonalds is giving away there new ice coffee for free for the next couple days.

Krispy Kreme and UPS IPO's single handedly took care of all my tech bubble losses. I have a long history with each of them. I grew up outside of Charlotte and there was a huge KK factory on Berkshire Blvd. KK would sell a fresh dozen to non-profits for $1 to resell. On my way to Eagle Scout, I participated in many a KK sale. The troop leader would go get 1000 or so boxes of doughnuts. We would sell them on the street corners for $2 a box. I am really not sure it was character building. It was life draining. When you got down to your last few boxes it always seemed $2 was a fair price for 12 safe, soft projectiles to through at others or at a near by passing train.

Hey, wait a second, a coffee thread AND a doughnut thread in one day, Larry? Not sure I'm gonna make it to quittin' time!

Here's a good poll question: what's the fewest KK doughnuts you've had in one sitting?

        Regards,
        Tom
