    Argentine Ants--follow-up

Last summer I wrote a thread about the terrible time I was having with Argentine Ants invading my home. Parnelli suggested I try fipronil. I found a fipronil gel made by Combat and put it where I found ant trails.

The ant trails [note plural] were often an inch wide and coming from the wilderness area that backs onto my lot. While I was using the gel I noticed a diminution in the established trails, but I had had partial success before.

This spring, when they usually invade with force, I have virtually no ants anywhere. All I could find in my yard was the occasional single scout ant.

I am inclined to believe that the ants really did take the gel back to their nests and fed it to the larvae and the queen.

I am continuing to use the gel whenever I find any ants.

My biggest problem with insects are fleas, chiggers, and a few ticks. Digging around in the shed, I found a bottle of lindane solution. Sprayed the place with it this morning. Shouldn't have a bug problem for a while. Also found a couple of bottles of Diazanon. Both are now banned substances, but they work!

Have you tried Boric Acid it seems to work pretty well.

I thought that the boric acid (borax, right?) was pretty much just for termites. I'm pretty sure that's what the exterminater treated the wood with in my house for the termites.

Good tip, Steve. Wher'd you get it? It might come in handy during our next infestation.

I had a carpenter ant problem and used a product called Terro. It's a liquid that contains Borax and works similar in principle to the gel mentioned here. I haven't had any problems since I used it several years ago.
