MLB Survivor

I thought I'd share something kinda neat I'm doing. MLB.com has a fantasy game called MLB Survivor. Basically, you pick one team on the MLB Schedule to win each day. If you win, you continue, if you lose, well... you lose.
You can only pick the same team twice each round.

I thought I'd give it a try, and happend to join a round where there were 14,300+ entries.

17 days later, I'm in the top 6. I admitted to my wife when I made it into the top 100 that I far exceeded my expectations. I've already picked the Braves, White Sox, Red Sox all twice.

Today I picked the Angels to beat Toronto. I'm just not sure with today's games who to pick. I figure this is a true 50/50 game.

I considered the Indians over the Royals, A's over Mariners, Yankees over Rangers, DBacks over Padres... But as of right now, I think I'm sticking with the Angels.

I decided to stay away from that game. I like Zach Day, and expect bumps in Marshall's development. But the Cubbies are at home, so that helped even that one out. If i was forced to make a pick there, I would say the Nat's would win there.

I would think just leaving it to chance you have a 50/50 chance each round since no matter who you pick half the teams have to win and half have to lose, no?

Yeah, in reality, that's what it is. One team wins, the other team loses. So yes, it is really 50/50. However, I really believe in the statistics and matchup to change those odds (as does Vegas).

What I really mean by 50/50 is that it's about as even as a matchup that I can see. Read into it that you wouldn't catch me saying, Oh Yeah, the Angels are DEFINITELY gonna win


FWIW, I changed my pick to the Indians over the Royals. I just went back over my statistics and trends for the Angels matchup and don't think it is so even anymore.

Man, am I glad I took the Indians. Down to just 5 people left. I didn't expect to get this excited. Ok, yes I did. Right now I have the Phillies over the Brewers tonight.

I win a 100 dollar gift certificate to mlb.com. Also puts me in a final round where I do the same competition for tickets to next years allstar weekend.

You have an odds-on chance if you pick ANYBODY over the Royals. They're awful. They couldn't beat "Open Date"... In the box score, players who don't play are usually annotated with something like "Injured", "Manager's Decision", etc. In a ROYALS box score, DNP's are usually accompanied by things like "No Talent", "Too Embarassed", "Never Gonna Happen" or "He Sucks"...
