    Snapper Mower

At 82, my step dad has trouble mowing his yard, even with a self propelled mower. At an auction recently I was checking out a rear engine Deere mower for him. The mower had some problems, most notably the lack of compression when you turned the engine by hand.

An older man I was talking to said he had a Snapper that he no longer used. Said it was running when the belt broke and he decided to get a bigger lawn tractor. His new place was bigger than the house he had moved from on the coast and the Snapper was too small. He offered it to me for $100 and I picked it up today.

I shot a bit of carb cleaner down the troat and it fired on the 4th pull. Looks like other than flushing the tank and cleaning the carb, it will need a fuel filter, belt, gas cap and battery to be ready to go.

I sold my Snapper last summer - it was too small for my yard. I used one as a teenager in my lawn business. Cheap to run and cheap to fix if it broke.

$100 for a Snapper in that condition is a steal.

My Father-In-Law has one that must be 30 years old and it has some dings on it but still starts 1st pull when his $3000 new mower breaks which is way too often.

They're tough little mowers. The starter and battery may become troublesome, and most folks end up just pull-starting them. The hi-vac units cut a little cleaner, and work better than the standard if you use a bagger. I never did like the old bicycle-style handlebars (clumsy, uncomfortable), so I got a new one when the steering wheel units came out a few years ago. It still works great. Keep it lubed (including the blade spindle) and give it fresh gas, air filter, oil and a new plug every spring, and you'll be using it for years.
...eight, nine, TEN! Yep! Still got all my fingers!
