Kentucky Derby

Wow!!!! What a awesome race this year. I don't know how many of you guess are Derby watchers. Here in Kentucky it is a holiday.

My father was a blacksmith growing up and now is a horse farm manager. It has always been a dream of our family to have a Derby winner. Well in 2001 the owner of the farm my father works for won with Monarcos. That was pretty awesome. However, Dad didn't really have a lot to do with that horse. We continue to hope that one of the foals he helps bring into the world every year will someday win the big race.

Today as we watched the Derby with several horse "family" friends. One of the men that was there Bill Sanborn did actually bring Barbaro into the world. He was the man that was there when he was born and raised him until he went to be trained. It was so exciting.

Just wanted to share the excitement with my forum family.

Interesting topic - there is an article on Barbaro's trainer in this week's SI. I am glad Barbaro won the race.

For some reason I was watching the #3 horse. I think he shot himself in the foot by going to the front so early, and running out od gas so soon. But when Barbaro made his move, it was very impressive the way he ran off and hid from the rest of field.
