    Barrett-Jackson

    Do any of you guys ever watch the Barrett-Jackson auto auction on Speed channel. I was watching it last night, and they sold a 1968 Mustang GT500 convertible for I think it was $325,000.00 plus. A 1969 Corvette L-88 coupe for over $400,00.00. WOW.
    Then they sold a std. Mustang for over $400,000.00. Of course it had a 556 hp engine in it.
    I can't imagine the prices of these collectibles. I used to have a Vintage (Cherry) 67 Camaro RS and a 55 Chevy Bel Air 2dr-ht. I have seen cars like them sell for $150,000.00 and up. My mind doesn't really work in those zones.

    I was at the Barrett-Jackson auction a couple of years ago. Just happened to be there for an other event going on at the same time. It amazed me what some cars went for while others sold for what I'd consider very reasonable. I still have my 72 Chevelle SS and it is in show condition. I'm not ready to give it up yet but one day I may drive it to the auction. I only live 15 minutes from where it is held each year.
    Opinions are like gas;
    I don't mind hearing it, but keep it to yourself if it stinks.

      The prices on collectible cars have risen faster of late than the prices of real estate. Clearly, though, the buyers at the auctions are not your typical working stiffs. They're more the yacht-and-summer-home-in-the-Hamptons set. This is a glimpse into their typical lifestyle that, although normal for them, seems very extravagant to most of us. They just have nothing better to spend their money on. And hot cars are VERY cool...

      Another thing that boggles the mind is that Barrett-Jackson adds something like a 15-20% auctioneer's fee to the price of every vehicle sold. Assuming they're also sharing in the TV revenues, it sounds like a VERY lucrative racket.
      ...eight, nine, TEN! Yep! Still got all my fingers!

        The reason these are auctioning off so high may be because they are being sold with a full tank of gas.

          Just caught a replay. 69 L88 Vet went for $310 K. That would be quite a few of my SS checks.
