Finally got some OT at work...BUT with a BTS10

I finally got to work some OT this week end. It's been a while.

But, the job kind of sucked. As I posted before the Kiln Dry at work burned to the ground (it was new) . So now we are in the process of building another one. It is even bigger than the last one, which held 80,000 BF of wood. I'd say this one will hold at least 100,000 BF. Anyway what we did today was cut and install foam/fiberglass THERMAX insulation in the walls. WHAT A MESS!! We used an old model BTS10 to cut it with. Can you say POS? The cheap *ss sheet metal sorry excuse for a fence on this thing was a joke. Apparently the boss has had it a while and lost the table extensions so anything over 13 1/2" we had to clamp a fence to the saw to cut. I cut one piece of wood with it all day, a 1" x 2" piece of oak that we made into a 1/4" shim for the clamped on fence and it got half way down this 3' board and threw the breaker. I thought I killed it (put it out of its misery). I will say this for it though, it CAN CUT foam, but bearly since we were cutting 2.5" foam and at full height it barely made it through. The TS aside the mess the foam made was aweful the dust from this stuff OMG. We did wear masks, but we were coated with dust by the end of the day. We were cutting 16' x 4' sheets to fit between the studs. WE DID TWO LAYERS! Is there such a think as over insulated? the inside of the wall already had 3/4" foam under the interior wood panels, then we added 2 layers or 2.5" bring it to 5 3/4" of heavy duty aluminum sheathed THERMAX.

As much as I conplained about the BTS10 it was better we used it than a better saw. By the end of the day that thing was caked with dust (we did blow it out once, but wind, horrible dust and common sense kept us from doing that again ). Someone will eventually have to clean it though. I'm fairly certain the fiberglass and aluminum will lead to its, over due, demise. End Rant.

p.s. - to anyone who owns and likes their BTS10, try a BT3100. You will understand.

You're right. You wouldn't want to sacrifice a perfectly good bt3100 for cutting that crap.
