    Happy days are here

I'm 9 days away from retirement, putting a new shop together AND to top it off, I found out last night that a member of my church is opening a saw mill in Shawnee, OK. About 5 miles from my house

Well, I guess we know where your pension checks will be going. Good luck and enjoy your new shop!

Enjoy your retirement and don't spend it all at the new sawmill. Can't imagine much better of a situation

And risk being put to work? Why would he wanna do that? Man, when I retire I'm gonna be Teflon man. Requests from other than the LOML and/or kids will just bounce off of me. :-)

You'll need to post the information about your friends saw mill, that part of the state isn't too far from me. I've been looking for a place to buy lumber and haven't been to successful.

I don't have a lot of info right now, just talked to him briefly last night. He's been "playing" with a small set up for about a year(I hadn't heard, he's not a close friend) , a small saw and a kiln that will only hold about 8000 bd ft. He was using a lot of the walnut he was cutting in a house he was building for himself. Anyway he has decided to go commerical and has a large building and is getting a bigger saw and kiln. He says he already has a large quanity of logs(all hardwood, mostly walnut) waiting to be cut and dried. He said he'd let me know. As soon as I hear from him I'll check it out and let you know what to expect.

In the mean time have you checked out Grand River Hardwoods in Pryor? Not as close as Shawnee but they have a good setup and some nice wood.

                    It's even closer to me!!!!

Congrats on retirement, Don. I'm thinking we should become friends, and you can teach this poor newbie all about woodworking!

I'd be happy to become friends but as far as teaching anybody about woodworking, that would be a joke. I'm still learning myself. You can learn more on BT3central in a little while(if you ask the right questions) than you could learn from me in a long while. On the other hand, there's a lot to be said for talking things over and figuring things out together. Send me an email and maybe we could get together sometime. I'll be pretty busy for the next month but hopefully after that I'll have some free time( I hope retired people have free time ).

                              Don,

                              Congratulations!

I retire April 14 and am starting two weeks vacation April 1<g>. Will be doing some part time software development and consulting, but mostly honey do projects and woodworking. I am really looking forward to it.

Sadly, there are no saw mills near me that I know of...
