    Ok... who did it?

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- State police said someone walked off with over $40,000 in cash and receipts from the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex during a woodworking show Sunday.

Troopers said Becky Igou told them she set a green duffel bag with the money on the floor when she went to the restroom. When she returned the bag was gone.

Troopers said a man was seen leaving the farm show building with the bag.

Looks like she already has the Brainaic Award of 2006 in the bag, so to speak.

Maybe she took the "please no merchandise inside" signs a little too literally?

Being a career copper, I find Becky's story suspect from the git go. She's suspect number one as far as I'm concerned. I'd drop her lower on the list only if 10 of her friends would swear that she was the dumbest person on earth. I'm not saying it couldn't happen that way but . . .

The people running the show need a course in security.

        Hey,

I live in NY and grew up in Brooklyn, the current crime capital of the universe. And if this woman was so braindead to leave a bag of money on a floor, attended or not, well, she got just what she deserved.

Having defended many people in my career, I am sorry to say, yes she can be that dumb. I have had a woman use crack cocaine to stop a tooth ache. She put the piece in a cavity she had, and couldn't figure out why she violated her probation.

Rounder, as a defense attorney you pretty much have to believe 'em. I'm too cynical. Of course I wouldn't buy the old cocaine use for the tooth ache dodge, either. Fortunately most of the bad guys are real dumb. It's their stupidity that gets 'em caught nine times out of ten.

My brother was defense attorney and he pretty much believed that I only arrested innocent people. He never believed any of his clients were guilty. He's judge now and slowly coming around to idea that some people really are bad and do commit crimes.

If you take the time to examine the crime statistic from the FBI Uniform Crime Report and other Federal and State Crime Reporting Agencies, you will discover that Brooklyn is NOT the “current crime capital of the universe” as you are trying to pander here in your comment.

Many people are under the impression that Brooklyn is a dangerous crime area. However, statistics reveal otherwise

NYC has a low crime rate. It is ranked 211th out of 230 cities across the nation on the total crime index.
FBI data shows that Brooklyn is among the safest 15 percent of the 191 major cities in the U.S.
Brooklyn’s crime rate is comparable to that of Stamford, Connecticut, and significantly lower than other business locations such as Jersey City, Orlando, Tampa and Atlanta
The crime rate in Brooklyn is lower than that in Midtown Manhattan
Brooklyn and Queens crime rates remain the same and all other large cities crime rates are rising
Miami has one of the highest violent crime rates in the country as well as one of the highest property crime rates
Memphis, TN-AR-MS: Residents of Memphis contend with the nation's second-highest violent crime rate. In addition, the rate of robbery and burglary are among the nation's highest.
Per capita Arizona has a higher crime rate than New York in 2003

I have lived in Brooklyn for the past 36 years and never had a crime committed against me, or members of my family. I love Brooklyn, it’s a great place, it has the best tap water in the country and you don’t need a car to get around, among other things.
Brooklyn has gotten a bad rap from certain groups and elements in our society for whatever reason I don’t know. But to say it’s the “current crime capital’ is without merit or truth.

                A proud Brooklyn-ite

                Howie

When Dinkins was mayor, NY was not a pretty place to live, but Guliani really cleaned up the act, and Bloomberg accomplished the hard task of making things even more secure. Maybe it is worse in some seedier areas (Flatbush, East NY, parts of Coney Island, maybe some places in Prospect Park, Rockaway, Canarsie and Park Slope), but by and large Brooklyn is a great place. I bought a house and moved out of Brooklyn nearly a year ago, after living there for over 14 years. (Mostly in Midwood and Sheepshead Bay).

I think if she left her bag unattended in Manhattan, she'd return to find a anti-terror demolitions team working on it.

Gee, that sounds like a good defense for the person who walked out with the bag... "Gee, I just saw it, thought it might be a bomb and figured I'd better get it outside ASAP and away from the crowd".

Hard to believe that someone given the responsibility to handle $40 grand would take the time to pee... much less leave the bag outside on the floor. But when ya gotta go, ya gotta go! (It's also a bit surprising that someone would give a single person such responsibility without also providing an escort.)

Between the law enforcement I know, and the attorney's I know, you wouldn't believe the dumb stuff. BUT as for you only arresting innocent people, THEY ARE INNOCENT when you arrest them, you are arresting them because you think you have enough to PROVE they aren't. An important difference, that we should all be greatfull for.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

The bag night have been stolen all right, but did it really contain $40 grand worth of stuff? Sometimes people will claim exorbitant loss if they think they might be eligible for compensation. Kinda like some people will claim major trauma after a very minor fender-bender accident.

If I were carrying that kind of money around, it would not be in a large bag, but in some sort carry-on - prefferably inside my clothing. The thief deserves to get caught and jailed. But I believe that stupid careless people deserve to have their stuff stolen.
