I saw the Cole at Port Canaveral (I think it was last year) the day before they reactivated it. Did a good job with the refit. Can't tell anything ever happened.

I saw the Cole sitting on that heavy lifter when they brought her home. The crew did a fantastic job saving their ship. She had quite a hole blown inher side.

Its amazing what we can do, I mean she is not small ship the Cole. I wonder the guys or gals who thought that one up - I don't mean the Cole, but the norweigan ship that can submerge its hull and come up under something. It is not your everyday thought nor an everyday occurrence to think, design and build a ship like that, not knowing if it'll ever be needed.

There are actually many of these transporter ships worldwide. Granted, this one is a biggie, but it's a common mode of transporting smaller vessles around the world. Think of it as a floating dry-dock.

I often use this one when I need to get my 100 footer to the other side of the world. (yeah... I wish ).

I think I read somewhere that there are transporter ships like this one that also can submerge one-end-down in a vertical mode. As I recall, they use them to transport and place drilling platforms, bridge supports, and the like. Amazing.
