I think I'll learn to live with the mosquitos here after all, thank you very much! I think Charlie earned a lifetime supply of treats!

Pappy, beautiful picture. I am with you on that, even though I am very very very very very afraid of snakes
I would rather live in the country and be away from the city.
And if I were you Jim, that dog would have a home to stay at and a nice big steak, oh and he would sleep on Marks side of the bed.

While living in Naples, FL. (South of Fort Meyers), I killed a 3' coral in the front of the house. Coral snakes are slow moving. I've seen others around, but not near the house. Like alligators, if we leave them alone, they leave us alone.

Ugh, I hate the thought of poisonous snakes... When we put a boat in around here (well, in Minnesota, I'm stuck in Miami for work this week missing our only decent snow of the year
) I happily stomp around barefoot in muddy water with no fear of being poisoned, or losing a foot to an angry reptile. There are a few small rattlers in the bluffs in the southeast of the state but not where I live
.
For the city/country debate There is plenty of country living in parts of the country without nasty things to crawl into your sleeping bag when you're not looking.... I love camping the desert and mountains in the West/Southwest but the whole shake the shoes out before you put them on thing drives me nuts.
If it's snow or snakes I vote for snow, but I think the Census department has shown pretty conclusively that I'm in the minority on this one as more and more people move south.

This snakes only downfall was getting seen by Charlie. If it would have been me I would have let it go. I spent my teen years in the Panama Canal Zone and snakes don't bother me much any more
I've had dealings with Tree Vipers, Fer-de-lances, and more Boas than you can shake a stick at. Two encounters stick out in my memory. The time I slipped and fell in some wet saw grass. When I went to stand up there was a BIG Boa head in my face less than a foot away
I never saw how big the snake was but I think it could have eaten Charlie easily. Another time my step dad sent me to the car to get some spare bait while we were fishing and while running to the car there was a snake across the trail. Head in the bushes on one end and the tail in the bushes at the other end. The best long jump I've ever done on a dead run
The snake was gone on the return trip.
I'm working on my wife about keeping Charlie but she says 3 dogs and 2 cats are enough pets. And NO dogs on the bed

That is a pretty nice one! One thing to keep in mind is that coral snakes are rear fanged as opposed to the typical pit viper which is front fanged. For a coral snake to actually puncture skin, it would have to grab a pretty small part of the body such as a finger, toe, or ear.I can only please one person a day ........
