    I'm not sure that's exactly correct. IIRC, the issues developed in the Bill of Rights were discussed at some length at the constitutional convention. They were held out for later discussion because of their importance as well as the difficulty in reaching accord on them during the convention.

    Of course, I've been wrong before...

      No, I think you're correct that the original bill of rights as a concept was discussed at the covention. My point was that they chucked it in order to achieve a working Union. The Nation was more important than the People, at that time. Not necessarily a bad thing, when trying to form a Nation, but all the same an expression of priorities (and of differing viewpoints amongst the framers).

        Ah, I get your point now, Curt. Since we've come this far...

        I just read 1776. Very interesting account of Washington's army in that year, summarized as follows.
        • Got lucky in getting the Brits out of Boston.
        • Got spanked from Great Neck to Philly.
        • Got lucky crossing back accross the Delaware just before the snow got too deep.
        • Survived to fight another day, a la Sun Tsu.
