Mike, I don't know if you are partial to ford, but for what you use them for, trade them for a Cummins powered Ram with the manual transmision. I have never heard of those having any problems except maybe breaking things that you hook them to.

      gas vs desiel

When i bought my 99, I just bought my first house, just had my first kid.

So.......the extra $5k for the desiel was not an option.

now with desiel up in price, its really not an option either.

      but.......it is a thought though.

I got a pretty good deal on my 99 but not my 2002.

What did you pay for the Dodge?

Both my trucks are basically stripped work trucks. no power anything.
one has A/C but the other doesn't. Both extended cabs with 6.5 beds and 4 wheel drive.
      Maybe...........

I had the 1500 mind you, but my 2002 Ram Quadcab 4x4 with the 5.9 and loaded had a sticker for $35k and I paid less than $30k. I know the 2500 deisels are starting about the same price, but they just won't die.

$5k up front, or $8k down the road. I'd rather pay $5k up front.

Tough to buy parts for! That's really the problem. Fords are full of quick disconnects that don't, parts that should be cheap that aren't, cheap parts that are only sold as parts of $1500 assemblies, and the list goes on forever. I've owned many trucks from all the big three, and never seen any as bad (expensive) to try and keep on the road as post EFI Fords. FIL has newer F350 diesels and has no better luck. Gimme an old GM any day for cheap parts, or a Dodge for power and reliability. I'm sure ALL new vehicles have their problems, for me, I think I'll keep the oldest ones I have running. I'm gonna dig the 78 Suburban outta the snowdrift when I get home next. Or......fill the old grain truck's box with snow for weight and just drive that the rest of the winter until I can ride the old Harley again.
