    Credit card on PayPal account?

I've had a PayPal account for a long time, and maintain a modest balance that I can use to pay for items won on eBay and the like. I've never had a credit card "linked" to the account, and may soon have need to do this. I've found the screen where you fill out the form to add your credit card info; seems straightforward enough.

But what happens after that? When paying for an item or sending money to someone, does it give you the choice between drawing the funds from your balance or charging it to your card? Or will ALL transactions hencefore be charged to the CC? Also, are any CC fees charged to the buyer; i.e., me? (I know that CC fees are charged to the seller).

Note that this would be for a bank-issued card, not PayPal's own card (although the card in question is not one I'm currently using for anything else).

Thanks much for any and all input!

You will set up your account with primary and secondary funding sources. If you will use your cash account more, set that up as the primary, with the credit card as the backup funding source. If you want to use the credit card more, do the reverse. Transactions will default to whichever you have chosen as primary, and you will always get the chance to change that before a transaction is completed, if you desire. Nothing to worry about.
...eight, nine, TEN! Yep! Still got all my fingers!

I always charge it to CC - more options for recovery if something goes wrong and speedier service from credit card co. What I really want is a way to use the virtual account nos with paypal.

I've heard that the credit card companies tend not to help with resolution on stuff via paypal. What I heard is that their argument is that their 'sale' is with paypal and not the third party.

I've never had to find out (knock on wood) so it may just be hogwash.

Ditto what he said! I have had to rely on my CC company to stand behind me a couple of times and I have never been disappointed or ripped off...yet. (knock on wood)

My current setup is direct from checking as primary, backed by a credit card. But I can always specify payment via card if I want.

Any charges you incur are indeed done by Paypal - they charge your CC to put money into your account, and then transfer that money over to the seller. Any disputes that might arise - it'll be you vs PayPal, not vs the actual seller, and I would not rely too much on CC to straighten things out. In particular, any CC policy it to first try to resolve the matter with the charging party, and with PayPal, that means filing a dispute.

Can't say I am impressed with PayPal dispute system. I bought an item on ebay, and when paying, accidentally paid twice. It is plain as day, two identical payments 10 seconds apart, same ebay item#. I tried gettig the seller to refund one payment, but his mailbox is a black hole - no answers to any inquiries. He did ship the item, though. It's been three weeks since I filed a dispute, and they are still 'waiting for information from seller'. Apparently, he does not answer PayPal emails as well. I called PayPal today, they said that issue is clear, but they must get a seller response, and are gonna be waiting for only 3 more days. Oh well...
