When I was stationed in Va.and then in late years attended the National Academy at Quantico I'd drive out into the mountains when I had the time. In some of those tiny hamlets, in the evening, you would somtimes hear some of the prettiest, purest music. I'm not talking about the many festivals. Joebucks, I'm talking about what you said, a family or a group of neighbors gathered on a porch (where the **** did the stoop and porch go anyway?) just singing and playing for the sheer joy it all. I would stop the car, get out and lean on the fender just listening. I was never turned away and most times people wanted to know who I was what I was doing and did I play? Got lot of good home cooked and met a lot of really nice people that way. And, no I didn't play well enough to join in but, I would join in the chorus now and then. Even learned a few licks on the guitar which I started to play years later.

Those were good times! Joebucks, thanks for bringing them to mind again.
