Georgeous board: Waterfall Bubinga (Now Photos!)

The other day I came across the most beautiful board of wood I have ever seen: Waterfall Bubinga, 1" thick, 8' tall, on average about 2 feet wide (not squared, as sliced from the tree). It had sap wood all around creating an oval medallion-shape. I must have spent 5 minutes just looking at it.

Oh, the price: Around $1000 (that is one thousand US dollars).

Next time I'll go there I'll take the camera. Hopefully it is still there and I'll post a photo.

OK, finally got some photos, enjoy! The board is just rough planed, not finished!

      $62.50 per board foot.

When David Marks gave a shop tour of his wood collection, the stick he called the "piece de resistance" was a huge slab of quilted Bubinga. It was incredibly beautiful. He said he was going to save it like a fine wine, and slice veneers from it over time.

I got a guy up the road from me that imports exotics who sold a beautiful waterfall BooBinga plank measuring 1" thick x 26" wide (natural edge) x 16' long on ebay for $450. would have bought it for myself but it wasn't in the budget and where the heck would I put the thing??!?! The local Rockler has some smaller 8/4 chunks with more intense figure for outrageous prices :-/

John -- the board on the show was quilted mahogany....and a dang fine piece at that!

          I'd rather not say...

OK, that is just me hoping nobody buys it for a while so I can see it a few more times. I saw it at the local (Minnetonka, MN) Rockler, which in part explains the high price. I did a Google search, can't say I have found anything yet that came even remotely close looks-wise.

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible

                Gerd,

If it's the one I'm thinking of, I've seen it too and it is beautiful. Does drool knock down the price?
