    Some HF goodies

I went to HF today to pick up some blades for my jointer ($9.99 a set, not on sale.) and bought a few other items I thought were a good buy. After bringing them home, I looked them over good, then identified similar items sold by other retailers. Here's a list of what I bought, what the price was a I paid, wether it was on or off sale and what retailer sells a similar item. Here's the list:

#5926 Feather board $6.99 (not on sale), like Woodcraft
#36697 Feather board with angle finder $5.99 (not on sale), like The Woodshop
    #47257 6" Digital Caliper $15.99, like Rockler
#623 Dial Indicator $6.99, like Woodcraft
#5645 Magnetic Base $7.99, like Woodcraft
#39392 Scraper $2.49, similar to Woodcraft
#1382 Taper Jig $8.99 like Woodcraft, Rockler and Hartville Tool

I bought the tapering Jig yesterday too when I picked up the $39.99 drill press. I haven't opened it up yet to see how it is since I've been sick all day...

        Axio,
Hope you feel better soon, let us know what you think of the $39.99 drill press. I have been thinking about pulling the trigger on this since its been about a week without a new tool purchase.

          Scott,

I sure will, but having already opened the boxes and checked all the items out, I'm pleased with the quality and price of all of them.

          bigstick,

I have owned that drill press before and it's a great buy for $39.99. I'd jump on it if I were you.

            Dave,

Is that the correct number of the first featherboard you listed? It doesn't come up on their website and when you do a search for "feather board" it only brings up the second one with the angle finder. BTW, how would you compare it to this one?

            Thanks,
            Greg

I was at my local HF yesterday and picked up 8 36" ALUMINUM BAR CLAMPS http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=38184 normally listed at $12.99 each for $5.99 each plus my 10% discount. I really like these clamps and already have some cabinet doors being glued up using them.

                Greg,

My apologies for the typo, it's this one (5926) and it's now on sale:

The tapering jig on sale for $9 is identical to the one Woodcraft sells for $20.

Is that a card scraper? I can't find that item # on the HF website.

Apparently it's only sold at the stores. Here's a link:

How is that drill press for $39? Is it ok for light use? I don't have a DP at all right now, and I don't have a huge need, but it would be nice to have one for small work.

The featherboard 5926 listed at $6.99. The HF webside has it on sale for $3.99, just print the page and take it into the store and they will honor the price. I picked up two of them. I have never used a featherboard before. I think these will need some modification to be used on the BT3100 table saw.

****, having trouble adapting to new site.
                              Lost my previous post.
                              Here's the short version.

                              IMHO, get this press:
                              http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=44836

The $40 press doesn't have a crank to lift the table. When I bought it I didn't appreciate how important this is. Since drill bit lengths vary and the spindle stroke is only 2", you must adjust height often.

                              I have one of these:
                              http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=44505

For what it is, it is an excellent machine, but consider what you have to do to change table height:

Clear table, loosen locking clamp while supporting table with other hand, wiggle table back and forth to give control while raising/lowering, realign hole in table with drill bit, realign work to bit (say you are chamfering and drilling the same hole).

I since bought a Delta 12" DP with the table crank. The HF runs smoother, but that crank makes a big difference!

                              Hope this helps!
