    Shutter attachment

LOML wants me to make plantation shutters to cover the side lites on my front entry door.It is a standard 36" metal door with full length side lites on each side.I have made plantation shutters before so the fabrication is not an issue. My main concern is hanging them in the narrow opening without them looking bulky.
The nearest showroom that I can see how the pros do it is 40 miles away.I was hoping that someone may have these in their home and could show a picture or a give very good description of how it's done.
The pictures I see on the web show a frontal view without showing close up of the attachment.
    Thanks

I have also made plantation shutters for windows but not sidelites of doors. I've examined some installations in hotel and restraunts I visited and notices that they built a little open sided box to get the shutter far enough away from the window you could operate is and mounted the shutter to that. My doors and french doors have screwed in moulding to hold the insulated glass in place. I am not anxious to make more plantation shutters (way too much time in finishing for my level of patience) but I was thinking that I might be able to remove the moulding and use the mounting "box" to hold the glass in place.

      Jim, thanks for your reply.
So if I understand correctly you could put a mounting block (spacer) at the top and bottom of each side lite and connect the stile that holds the slats to this and get a similar affect.
There is about 1/2" between the trim and casing. If no glass is in that area I could mount the spacers to the metal the with pocket screws then attach the shutter the spacer
The sides being open wouldn't look as bulky either.

Your right they are a bear to finish.I already have enough of the slat material finished to make these left over from the last shutters I built. For me that was the most tedious part.
