We took down our faded vinyl shutter to paint them. It took us awhile to figure out how to get the shutter locks removed. The only way we could come up with was to use a flat screw driver, prying under the lock head and pull it out far enough to clip it off below the shank with wire cutters. Then we removed the shutters, and worked the "nail" part out gently using pliers. Now that the shutters are painted, we are trying to re-hang them. We have bought new shutter locks (actually oredered them, the hardware store doesn't carry them in stock). We drilled the holes in the shutters a little larger so the locks would go in easy. Two shutters we were able to get up just fine. On others, the shutter locks didn't want to go completely in...the head is still sticking out about 1/2 " or so. We've made sure that the pre-drilled hole in the vinyl siding matched the one in the original wood siding, but still can't get some of the locks to go all the way in. We also labled each shutter so we would know which window and on what side it would go on. Since these locks are plastic, they break so easy! Someone on another site said we could have use our old locks, but how can you use them once the heads have been cut off? Is there an easier way to remove and re-hang these shutters? Please help!!
