I used jigsaw with metal cutting blade. Bolt cutter would probably be the best way to go.

Recip. saw with a metal blade. Only caveat, you want the shelf secured before cutting. Oh, and if the saw has orbital, turn it off.

A little feedback and another question

My wife had the store cut the last shelf when she was there. They must have used a bolt cutter and not been very good at it. Each cut was a chisel point and they weren't even cut the same length. The center was a good 1/4" shorter than the other rails. Sloppy looking from my point of view and left a lot of sharp edges I had to clean up. Not my cup of tea. Now the question. Before I lay money down on a angle grinder I want to try my pneumatic die grinder with a cut off wheel. Does anyone know what type of mandrel I should use for this application? Can I use a standard drill type mandrel or are there special ones for die grinders because of the RPMs?
