Thirteen years ago a scared little four month old pup came into my life. Animal control had found her wandering. Someone had abused her and dumped her in the city. Bindi came home with Kim and me and we started the long road in making her a big part of out family. Over the next long months, Bindi grew attached to us and showed us more love and devotion than we could expect. She took on the role of family protector and was a great judge of character. Bindi loved to go camping and always knew when we were packing the gear and would be waiting to go.
A couple of years ago, she started developing arthritis in her back legs but she never complained and would always be up for a walk. She knew the sight of a Tim Hortons cup and wait for her Timbit. Saturday morning she just couldn't manage to hold herself up. Kim and I had to help her out to the yard for her business. Still no complaints. Last night, she laid at my feet and just looked at me. I knew it was time. We took her to her favourite doctor( the only one who could pull her about with out getting growled at) and let her have peace.
I laid on the floor and held her tight as she closed her eyes one last time. Bindi was more that a pet. She was a companion, a friend, and the best dog I could ever ask for. There may be others in my future but none that will be as special. I know she will be waiting for me just this side of the Rainbow Bridge and we will cross in heaven together.
