    Japanese style hammer

Several months ago, FWW [167] had an article by a man from China that makes most of his own tools. One of the tools in the picture was an elegant Japanese style hammer. Two months later, in response to an inquiry, FWW [170] showed how it was made. From top to bottom, they are Maple and Padauk; Purple Heart and Red Oak; and, Purple Heart and Tulip. The wedges in the tenons are Ebony. The 1/8" brass faces are attached with brass rods driven into the wood.
