When I was in Oxnard, CA area, I saw something similar to the following behind every piece of furniture for earthquake purpose. They were just metal wires anchor the furniture to the wall. They were attached to the back of the furniture instead of the bottom of the top like as shown though. Since your bookcase's tops will be covered by molding, you could anchor the wire to the top of the bookcase top instead. An good alternative is just L bracket from stud to the top of the bookcase as mentioned by "mpc". They will be hidden away anyway.
