    Where to buy lumber

This comes up fairly often and is regional in nature. Woodfinder and other options (searches, etc.) are out there, but this seemed like an easy group kick-off topic.

I'll list the (very few) places I have purchased from myself and others are free to add more.

    Minnesota:

Logs to Lumber - Inver Grove Heights
Logs To Lumber - Kiln Dried Hardwood Lumber - Domestic and Exotic Lumber - Live Edge Slabs - Table tops

    651-387-5647
A cash-only business run out of a gentleman's (packed to the roof) garage. The wood I've purchased has been cut thick (often thick enough to end up with dimensioned lumber that measured out to the full nominal size (eg buying 4/4 QS Oak I was able to mill it square to 1.0"). Prices were decent, and the measurements were usually rounded in my favor. You need to call ahead of time and this isn't the type of place were you can wander and checkout what's in the aisles.

Siwek Lumber - Minneapolis & Jordan
    http://www.siweklumber.com/
A regular hardware and lumber store with regular (including evening) hours. They have a moderate selection of hardwoods in Minneapolis, and a seemingly more random selection in Jordan. Moderate to moderately high prices.

    Youngblood Lumber - Minneapolis
    http://www.youngbloodlumber.com/
A real full product-line lumber yard. A pretty wide selection of hardwood, plywood and other materials. They're basically open union hours (done working before 4PM every day). However, they are also open Saturday mornings before noon. You are free to walk around the sheds and pick through the stack. Their "guy off the street" prices are crazy high, however if you're a tradesman, student or member of the Minnesota Woodworkers Guild you can buy at their "wholesale" price which is more moderate.

I'll second the recommendation for Youngblood.
