BT3Central,
The forum software we use is vBulletin. Jelsoft, the developers of vBulletin recently announced the upcoming release of vBulletin Forum 4.0 and vBulletin Publishing Suite 4.0. The addition of the "Publishing Suite" option basically brings together the forum software, a blogging system (think project diaries) and a Content Management System (think front page and articles).
This is a major release, most likely the most significant change since I started using the software. I am excited with the features and "bells and whistles" that it will bring, but am also a bit overwhelmed at the redesign of BT3Central that this suite will require. With that in mind, I will most likely work on a site redesign and implementation of the new features over the next few months with the hopes of a migration around the first of the year.
The new software looks very "Web 2.0" and reminds me of Facebook. That is no surprise since vBulletin has been moving more and more towards a social networking application rather than just strictly a forum software. At first blush it looks like there is going to be a bit of a learning curve for administrators as well as the users, but I am confident we will work through all of it just fine.
I just wanted to give everyone the heads up on what is coming down the pike...
