    I let the smoke out.

    So my 2 year old top tier Asus gaming laptop suffered a crackling, sizzling death post warranty period...

    Had to source up a replacement QUICK and couldn't afford a top end machine. Ended up above mid tier. Ryzen 7 / 40GB ram, 2TB NVME storage etc.... Hopefully this one holds up better. But getting all my site logins and applications back is a pain in the tail....

      Something to be said for regular system image backups. I run system image backups regularly to a pair of 1TB USB hard drives, alternating between the two and am currently able to record three backups on each drive. This gives me six levels of backup. My system uses a 1TB SSD drive for main storage. I also do a folder and file backup to an internal 1TB HDD drive, and I get four backups to this drive. This system is so fast an entire system image takes only 26 minutes for 260 GB. The previous system took 3 hours to do a system image to the USB drives. Fortunately, I've never had to do the restore function of the backup software.

              Mainboard toasted. Specifically the traces into the pcie bus.... where the SSD connects. Sent the old one off to Asus for possible repair today...
