inexpensive simple DIY router bit depth gauge

Saw this on Woodsmith Woodworking tips.

I've posted my DIY depth gauges, but this one is simple and cheap for setting fixed heights.

Should be self explanatory, but their video is linked below.

Personally, instead of finding a number of screws of different lengths, I'd Drill holes of different depths (a 1/4" deeper than the assigned depth) and use all same screws to be uniform. Easy enough to drill incremental hole depths by inserting a router setup block of increasing sizes under the depth stop of my drill press. Don't have to be 17 different depths, just change every fourth one by 1/4"

My quick calculation says make the first four cavities 3/8" deep, the net four cavities 5/8" deep, the next four 7/8 and the last four 1-1/8" deep.
Use 5/8" flat (brass preferable) head screws which would all be screwed in 5/16 to 1/2" deep. Your choice but I'd probably use a #6 screw (#6 x 5/8" brass FH wood screw)
I would drill all 16 pilot holes (~3/32 to 1/8") dia. and 1.5 inches deep using a fence to put the holes 1/4" from the edge on a drill press. The drill the cavity with the 1" forstner using the forstner center pilot in the pilot hole for alignment. Only four depth need to be set if you have a drill stop.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.
