Checking for cutoffs

I have a sliding miter table that I use for cutting the 4 degree cut on Tiny Table legs and aprons. This little sliver of wood seems to want to dance on the side of the blade, just daring me to move the sled. Usually this little sliver of wood is 1/8-3/16” thick, when the sled is moved back, which is the only way to move it, goes wham! When it finally grabs a piece of blade and jams against the blade and the jig. Quite the pucker factor. Nothing bad seems to go on but me jumping.

I had that happen once (that I can remember) on my Makita and it makes me watch closely.

Do you check for where your cutoffs fall when using power saws?

This is the 12" miter saw I recently purchased after destroying its predecessor with a bad kickback!
Never seen this happen before.
it was jammed in there pretty hard. Had to get some leverage to remove it could not remove it by hand.
