    Wilton Band Saw

    Hey guys, newbie here.
Just come across an opportunity to buy a Wilton Table Saw for $450.00. It is a Model 8201, 14 inch and has the capability of cutting both wood and metal. Problem is, I am relatively new to woodworking and never heard of this brand. Hopefully, some of you can give me some feedback.

    Thanks

One of the locally owned hardware stores caries some Wilton tools, but I have never used one nor talked with anyone who did. They started offering a small band saw around Christmas at a price considerably lower than some 'name' brands. They have since expanded to a couple of more tools so they must sell - - but that doesn't say anything about their quality, especially since they are relatively inexpensive. A fourteen inch saw for $400 seems almost too good to be true.

I guess I would do a lot more research before buying one and look around for some used tools.

I have a BT3100 and was never sorry I bought it. Sears offers a clone and occasionally has them on sale. You should get plenty of good advice here.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search. Regards, Steve

They are not a bad brand bandsaw as they are manufactured by the WMH Tool Group the same folks that manufacture, Powermatic and Jet I believe, That is a good price on that saw especially if it is in good condition, Check the trunnions for cracks and if you can take the blade of and spin the wheels to listen for bad bearings if possible, same with the motor take the belt off and spin the pulley to see if it has a bad bearing.,Tommyt

Yea Tommy that's it. Went ahead and made a deal for it. I also do quite a bit of metal fab, so being able to cut both wood and metal offers quite a bit of flexibility. Also found out that Wilton is part of Jet and Jet offers the same saw now.

          Thanks for the feedback.
