Tool gloat--Ryobi WDS1600 drum sander

Thanks for posting those links. I didn't put that much thought into my
stand as you can see. The top is salvaged from my TS extension table. The
sides are melamine. The whole thing sits on non-locking casters. I need to
find some shelf material and maybe build a door, too. I might use his dust
collection design, though. My planer does use the metal stand. It will
probably stay that way.

The top of the belt is a little higher than my TS top which feeds out to an
assembly/outfeed support table.

You know, FWIW, I sometimes wonder about the business decisions made by TTI / Ryobi. They make tools that people like, so they stop making them, and replace them with inferior versions, or nothing at all. What gives there?

Example? BT3100 replaced by what? The BTS-21? Not a fair trade in the least.
WDS1600 dropped, nothing in its place.
Spindle sander dropped, nothing in its place.
Benchtop jointer dropped, nothing in its place.
AP1300 with the cutter head lock and infeed / outfeed tables dropped, AP1301 lacking those features in its place.
I guess they figure they will make more money making disposable tools for DIY / home repair type stuff. (Which I do as well...). It's just a pity to watch the good stuff go away.

I think they are just tyring to draw a bright line between the Ryobi (homeowner/do-it-yourselfer) and Ridgid (professional/serious-hobbyist) lines. It's a truism in product management that it costs money to maintain a product line. If you have duplicate lines that is probably wasted money. Having the discipline to examine the lineup and remove duplicate products. or favorites that are no longer profitable ($300 BT3x?), is a real challenge.

Having said that, I'm not aware of a drum sander in the TTI lineup.

Are you aware that the sandpaper rolls for the Jet/Performax 16-32 drum sanders are an exact fit for the Ryobi WDS1600? Those are available lots of places.
