    Frued Avanti Router

Has anyone installed this router in a BT3100?

If so, was it a straight forward installation?

    TIA,

I have not installed that router. I have installed others without a matching mounting plate. Here are the things I had t watch out for; In aligning the router on the plate, watch for the positions of handles and switches.
Check for clearances under the table for the router. Center the router on the plate you are going to use and mark the holes for drilling. When drilling the holes make sure the screws for the router fit through the holes and then counter sink the holes to fit the screws.
Often in error - Never in doubt

I installed the Freud Avanti on my BT3 and it was pretty straight forward, but I didn’t mount it directly to the BT3 top because I didn’t want to drill any more holes in it. Instead I made a 3/8” plywood mounting plate for the router and then screwed the mounting plate to the underneath side of the table using the existing holes in the BT3 top and some t-nuts in the plate. Using the 3/8” plate leaves barely enough clearance to change bits above the table, but it works just fine. I did not drill a hole in the BT3 top for the above-table height adjuster because it’s not that difficult to adjust the height from below if you orient the router so the adjustments are easy to reach. You have to reach underneath the table to unlock and lock the router anyway. I removed the handles.

Here is a link to facilitate making the router plate, thanks to Jim Frye, https://www.sawdustzone.org/articles...plate-template

          Thanks for the input.

I just ordered one from Lowes as noted in the 'Bargain' forum.

Also, here is a link for the Freud FT1700 router template, http://www.routerforums.com/freud/78...-template.html. I am pretty sure it is the same base as the Avanti, but you should check the template against the router before using it.

Actually on this model there are above-table adjustments for all three -- height, base clamp, and spindle lock.

Thanks for the info. Hmmm...sounds like it may be a good time to purchase that second router.

Now I need to figure out how to attach it to the table saw... the three mounting holes were a little too small to attach the router to the aluminum plate, so I'm glad I didn't start drilling holes in the table yet...

No problem! I'll toss in the pile and ignore it with all the others!

After losing out on the HDT router deal I decided to order from Lowes. I put the router in my cart and proceeded to check out. All it will let me do is have it sent to a Lowes store for pick-up. Seeing as the closest Lowes to me is a 140 mile round trip I decided against doing that. I guess this router set wasn't meant to be a part of my shop.

Does anyone know if maybe I'm missing a step where I can have it sent directly to me?
