you guys aren't going to regret it. I have this router and a 3 1/4 hp ft2200 w/router raizer mounted in my extension table and I really like it. It will handle all but the biggest bits and the above table adjustments are great. I set both up at the same time to do rails and stiles.
works great.Phil In Ohio

It's not the smoothest. I can't compare it to the Craftsman, though, because I haven't used that one. I like the plunge base on the DW618 much better, so I'm using the Freud in the router table...online at http://www.theFrankes.com

Yay! I got the router table extension built onto the bt3k last night and it went pretty smoothly. I just used some MDF, scrap maple and oak, and some 1/2" plywood.
Funny -- when I went to do the cut-out, I reached for the DW618 router /plunge base instead of the one I just got. (The plunge mechanism feels nicer to me.) So unfortunately, this router didn't get the honor of making its own table.
I'll try to get a couple pictures up tonight...online at http://www.theFrankes.com

Have you tried the height adjustment yet? Although this is easily the nicest router I own, I do manage to get by. One of the greatest appeals was the height adjustment. Have you used it yet? How practical is it?Comment

Yeah, it's very easy to use the adjustments from the top of the router table. I'll try to post a couple of pictures tonight of what I got set up. You can adjust height, collet lock, and clamp all from above the table with the included adjustment tool. So i'd say it's very practical.online at http://www.theFrankes.com

Okay -- here are some photos of the router table extension I mentioned earlier in this thread: http://www.bt3central.com/showthread.php?t=42603Last edited by Alex Franke; 12-19-2008, 08:19 PM.online at http://www.theFrankes.com

ok guys I am glad to see you are all starting to get your routers and get them set up. I thought i would make a recommendation though. If you build the router plate for this router find a way to add removable plugs for the raizer and locking mechanism holes. I have used this router for over a year and it is great, but can be a real pain if the holes fill up with sawdust. The first time you pack the sawdust with the adjustment tool damhikt you will be very unhappy. otherwise it is a wonderful router.Phil In Ohio

Ok, you guys talked me into it. I just ordered one. Lowes is claiming delivery in time for Christmas if ordered before tomorrow so we will see if it gets here. Free delivery too!! and still $99.
All the above board operations sound very appealing to me. I do notice that the web site lists a 1/2 in. collett. Does it also have a 1/4", or is one avail, or will I have to still use my PC for those few bits I still have that are 1/4"Bernie
Owww -- That spinnin' thang hurt!!Comment

Should I get it?
I am about to pull the trigger on the Freud Avanti FT1702VCEK ~$100 deal online at Lowe's. Is there anything anybody DOESN'T like about this router that I should know about? Right now I only have an old Craftsman router and I really need another with more features including a 1/2" collet, VS, and more power than my old 1HP router.
For $100 shipped it sure seems like a bargain, but I don't want to find out about its faults later. Anybody?
Update: I ordered the router tonight. Comments are still welcome.Comment
